The Stranger
When the Washington state indoor smoking ban passed, I immediately thought that it would be clever for cigarette companies to include 25' tape measures in multi-packs of cigarettes for Washington smokers who might not know how far 25' is from the entrance of a building (or where they could legally light up). Instead of contacting cigarette companies, I contacted The Stranger with this graphic. And by golly, they ran it.
Luminant Worldwide's Guide to Pioneer Square
When Free Range Media merged with a national conglomerate, we felt it our duty to provide a handy guide of our neighborhood for out-of-towners coming to Seattle for business. I spent many an uncomfortable night photographing the lights (Luminant) of Pioneer Square, and countless hours running to Kits Cameras (remember film?) to design this brochure under budget.
The Most Insanely Over-Designed RFP Ever
In our digital world, I've always enjoyed being rooted in "craft," or "the making of actual things." When Luminant mentioned that we were a finalist in pitching The Body Shop Digital, I offered my book arts expertise to construct a conceptually rich, archival-book-clothily-pristine clamshell box in which to house the RFP. Thirty hours later, I give you this...and sadly, no, we didn't land the client.
Blue Nile Jewelry Care Guide
When I started at the Nile, it was common practice for one or more of eleven different care guides to be included in shipping boxes to match the jewelry in the package. This caused much confusion for everyone packing boxes, e.g. "Did I remember the pearl AND silver care guides in that box I just taped up?" To expedite the fulfillment process, and to slash printing costs (from $0.11 to $0.03 each), I designed an all-inclusive care guide featuring all of our care instructions on one quad-folded piece of paper. The guides were then pre-loaded into all outgoing boxes, never to confuse anyone again.
